Vaccination coverage (or immunization coverage) is the percentage of a population that is immunized against a disease.
This dashboard provides detailed data on routine adult vaccination coverage, as well as seasonal influenza and COVID-19 vaccination coverage in Canada. Data comes from the 2023 and 2024 Vulnerable and Hard-to-reach COVID-19 Immunization Coverage Survey (VHCICS) and the 2025 Key Adult Populations Immunization Coverage Survey (KAPICS). We report on the general population (all people surveyed). We also report on key populations defined by factors like:
- education level
- age range
- ethnic background
- geographic location
- occupation
The data add to existing vaccination research and may help generate further research.

Vaccine coverage by population
Key observations
- COVID-19 vaccination coverage in the general population was 95% in 2023, 93% in 2024, and 92% in 2025. We observed variations in COVID-19 vaccination coverage by key populations across years.
- Influenza vaccination coverage was 45% in the general population in both 2024 and 2025, with variations in vaccination coverage by key populations across years.
- In 2025, vaccination coverage for adult routine vaccines varied by population:
- pertussis (whooping cough) vaccination coverage was 31% in the general population and ranged in the key populations from 24% (young adults) to 36% (Indigenous)
- tetanus vaccination coverage was 59% in the general population and ranged in the key populations from 55% (visible minorities) to 65% (people who use drugs)
- human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination coverage was 16% in the general population and ranged in the key populations from 16% (rural or remote communities) to 58% (young adults)
- pneumococcal vaccination coverage was 56% in the general population and ranged in the key populations from 31% (visible minorities) to 64% (people who use drugs)
- shingles vaccination coverage was 44% in the general population and ranged in the key populations from 26% (recent immigrants) to 37% (rural or remote communities)

- We based vaccination coverage estimates on survey data from:
- 2023 (January 9 to February 23, 2023, n = 5,703)
- 2024 (January 11 to March 3, 2024, n = 5,862)
- 2025 (February 19 to March 23, 2025, and May 1 to July 3, 2025, n = 5,754)
- We could not set quotas when targeting four populations: health care workers, industry workers, transportation workers, and people who use drugs. As a result, we collected data for these populations through a pattern of naturally occurring characteristics that emerge within the general population.
- Populations are not mutually exclusive. Respondents can fall into multiple populations. For example, a respondent can be part of the young adults population as well as the industry workers population, or part of the transportation workers and rural or remote communities populations
- In 2025, we didn’t capture health care workers, industry workers and transportation workers populations in the survey. The urban Indigenous population was reframed as “Indigenous.”
- We measured vaccine coverage differently depending on the type of vaccine, respondent age group and
respondent province or territory of residence:
- the number of COVID-19 vaccines included “none” or “at least one dose” responses, measured among all respondents (2023, 2024 and 2025)
- influenza vaccination included “yes” or “no” responses, measured among all respondents (2024 and 2025)
- pertussis (whooping cough) vaccination as an adult included “yes” or “no” responses, measured among all respondents (2025 only)
- tetanus vaccination within the past 10 years included “yes” and “no” responses, measured among all respondents (2025 only)
- pneumococcal vaccination included “yes” and “no” responses, measured among people aged 50 years and older in Nunavut and 65 years and older in other provinces and territories (2025 only)
- human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination included “yes” and “no” responses, measured among all respondents (2025 only)
- shingles vaccination included “yes” and “no” responses, measured among people aged 50 years and older (2025 only)
- The HPV vaccine was introduced in school programs for girls in Canada between 2007 and 2020, and for boys from 2018/2019 to 2021
Vaccine coverage by geography
Key observations
- COVID-19 vaccination coverage varied among the general population by year:
- In 2023, it was lowest in British Columbia and the Territories (93%) and highest in the Atlantic provinces (97%).
- In 2024, it ranged from 81% in Saskatchewan to 97% in Quebec.
- In 2025, it ranged from 85% in Alberta to 94% in Manitoba.
- In 2024, influenza vaccination coverage among the general population ranged from 40% (Quebec and Ontario) to 61% (Atlantic provinces). A similar pattern emerged among the general population in 2025, with vaccination coverage ranging from 39% (Quebec) to 57% (Atlantic provinces).
- In 2025, vaccination coverage for adult routine vaccines among the general population varied by provinces and territories:
- pertussis (whooping cough) vaccination coverage was lowest in Manitoba (27%) and highest in Saskatchewan (43%)
- tetanus vaccination coverage was lowest in Quebec (49%) and highest in the Atlantic provinces (67%)
- human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination coverage was lowest in Manitoba (2%) and highest in Alberta (20%)
- pneumococcal vaccination coverage was lowest in British Columbia and the Territories (52%) and highest in Manitoba (75%)
- shingles vaccination coverage was lowest in Alberta and Saskatchewan (each 37%) and highest in Manitoba (54%)
- Overall, there were variations in vaccination coverage among key populations for each vaccine and each year.
