Foodbook: Canadian food, animal, and water exposure survey: About
An introduction to Foodbook.
- Last updated: ...
Foodbook is a national food consumption survey. It collects data on what people consume and their exposures to animals and water over a seven day period. Foodbook helps us understand how much of the population in Canada eats certain foods. The main purpose is to support public health response to an outbreak of enteric (gastrointestinal) illness. Data also informs:
- risk assessments
- activities related to zoonotic illness (diseases that can spread between humans and animals)
- estimates of the impact of enteric illness on populations
- food safety education
- health promotion
The first version of Foodbook collected data from April 2014 to April 2015. The second version (Foodbook 2.0) collected data from January 2023 to January 2024.
