About the dashboard

Health Canada's Consumer Product Safety Program (CPSP) is responsible for preventing, detecting and responding to health or safety risks posed by consumer products and cosmetics in the Canadian market.

This is done through targeted inspections (Compliance Verification projects), assessing industry and consumer submitted reports and monitoring the media and emerging trends. We address issues by working with industry to take corrective actions such as product recalls. We also collaborate with other government stakeholders like the Canada Border Service Agency (CBSA) to advise on product safety at the border as well as foreign regulators like the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (U.S. CPSC) to coordinate joint press releases.

The dashboard provides information on the compliance and enforcement activities undergone to ensure consumer products and cosmetics are safe for people in Canada.

Why we report

This analysis is provided to inform consumers and industry of the actions the CPSP has taken to ensure the health and safety of all Canadians. The information from Compliance Verification activities and the reports we received from consumers and industry is used to plan future activities. Trends observed from this data is also used to help the federal government target product safety risks to better protect the health and safety of consumers.

Through the CPSP, Health Canada is able to quickly identify and act on product safety risks. We are also able to keep consumers informed about health and safety issues related to consumer products and cosmetics.

Working with international partners

The CPSP actively collaborates with the U.S. CPSC and Mexico's Consumer Protection Federal Agency (PROFECO) on consumer product safety by publishing joint and trilateral recalls.
