Percentage (%) of youth who report using active ways like walking or cycling to get to places

Definition Active transportation is defined as physical activity that occurs while traveling between destinations (typically by foot or bicycle), and that is not primarily for leisure. This indicator measures the proportion of Canadians who reported active transportation to get to places such as work, school, the bus stop, the shopping centre or to visit friends.

Population Population aged 12 to 17 years
Data Available Sex, age group (5 year), province/territory, population centre/rural area, highest level of education (household), household income adequacy, cultural/racial background, Indigenous status, immigrant status, and trend (age-standardized)
Estimate Calculation Numerator: Number of youth aged 12 to 17 years who reported using active transportation to get to places such as work, school, the bus stop, the shopping centre or to visit friends in the last 7 days. Denominator: Total population, aged 12 to 17 years. This indicator is based on the variable "Active transportation - 7 d (PAY_010)=yes".
Additional Remarks Due to changes in survey methodology, estimates of this indicator should not be compared to those from the PASS 2020 edition or prior.
