AMRNet data for United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of interconnected global objectives set by the United Nations in 2015. They aim to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure peace and prosperity for all by 2030. The goals apply to all countries and focus on long-term, sustainable progress.
In 2020, two new antimicrobial resistance (AMR) indicators were added to the SDG monitoring framework under health target 3.d, which focuses on helping countries better prevent, detect and manage health risks.
AMRNet supplies essential data used to measure Canada's progress towards the SDG Target 3.d (see Table 1).
Table 1. AMRNet data for UN Sustainable Development Goal Targets 3.d
Please note that the SDG AMR data in Table 1 are presented as percent resistant as opposed to percent susceptible.
| Indicator | 2020 | 2021 | 2022 | 2023 | 2024 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Percent of Staphylococcus aureus bloodstream infections resistant to methicillin (MRSA) (%)Footnote 1 | 17 | 17 | 17 | 19 | 20 |
| Percent of Escherichia coli bloodstream infections resistant to third-generation cephalosporins (%)Footnote 1Footnote 2 | 15 | 14 | 18 | 20 | 28 |
Notes
- Footnote 1
-
First isolate per patient in a calendar year.
- Footnote 2
-
Isolates resistant to ≥1 tested third-generation cephalosporin / isolates tested for susceptibility to ≥1 third-generation cephalosporin * 100. Third-generation cephalosporins include ceftriaxone, ceftazidime, and cefotaxime.
