Vaping sales

Background

Since July 2023, vaping companies have been required by the Vaping Product Reporting Regulations to report sales of vaping products. They provide these sales reports to Health Canada. Vaping companies submit the reports twice a year (in January and July) for the previous 6 months.

Data are available nationally and by province or territory. The data here represent total sales for each of these vaping product categories:

• vaping substance (for example, vaping liquid, e-liquid, e-juice, etc.)
• vaping part that contains a vaping substance (for example, pod or cartridge, etc.)
• vaping device that contains a vaping substance (for example, disposable vape, vape pen, cig-a-like, etc.)
• vaping part or device that does not contain a vaping substance (for example, device containing no liquid, tanks, coils, empty pod, etc.)

There are 3 important factors to consider when using these data:

• The data may be occasionally revised due to re-submissions by vaping companies or audits by Health Canada.
• Sales are reported shipments by vaping companies to wholesalers or retailers in a province or territory. Sales don’t include individual purchases from retailers. Sales totals may not represent actual vaping consumption for that province or territory.
• Various data points could not be reported due to a limited number of companies active in those markets. In these cases, the data were merged into larger groupings.
