Human Papillomavirus Indicator Framework (HPVIF)

The Human Papillomavirus Indicator Framework (HPVIF) presents HPV vaccination coverage and HPV outcome indicators for Canada. Sub-national estimates, sociodemographic breakdowns, and trends over time are presented, when possible, as well as international comparisons. Since HPV vaccination can prevent HPV-associated cancers, this framework will serve as a valuable resource for monitoring Canada’s progress against HPV.

About

The Human Papillomavirus Virus Indicator Framework (HPVIF) is produced by the Public Health Agency of Canada's Centre for Immunization Surveillance and Programs and Centre for Surveillance and Applied Research. The presented HPV indicators are grouped into two key health domains: HPV vaccination coverage and HPV outcomes.

The HPV vaccination coverage indicators among 14-year-olds are presented from the childhood National Immunization Coverage Survey (cNICS), among 9–17-year-olds from the Childhood Immunization Coverage Survey in Key Populations (KPCICS), and among adults 18-26 years of age from the adult National Immunization Coverage Survey (aNICS). These Indicators are reported at a national level. Sub-national estimates and sociodemographic breakdowns are presented, when possible. International HPV vaccination coverage estimates were downloaded from the WHO Immunization Data Portal. Only data submitted by countries often benchmarked against Canada in healthcare comparisons were considered for inclusion.

The HPV outcome indicators provide information on HPV-associated cancers using data from Statistics Canada’s Canadian Cancer Registry and the International Agency for Research on Cancer. These indicators examine the burden of HPV-associated cancers in Canada and its sub-geographies, disaggregated by sex and over time, as well as in an international context.
